Incredible little plants that float just below the water's surface hunting for aquatic prey including mosquito larvae! The plants can catch mosquito larvae right up to the stage before they undergo metamorphosis into an adult mosquito.

Care:

Best in a pond that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. This species will go dormant to specialised growth called turions to survive the Winter in colder locations. We would not recommend letting the plants home to reach freezing point though it's possible they could survive. This turion growth also allows this species to survive drought, but again best to avoid letting their home dry up!

This plant can be killed by algae so it's important to have other aquatic plants around to help keep nutrient levels low and balanced. No or low nutrients = No algae imbalance.

Aquatic plant companions suitable, some of which we do have/or can grow to order:

Azolla pinnata

Marsilea mutica

Marsilea drummondii

Hydrocharis dubia (best for warmer locations)

Machaerina juncea formerly Baumea juncea

Machaerina articulata formerly Baumea articulata HP

Schoenoplectiella mucronata formerly Schoenoplectus

Spirodela polyrhiza Giant Duckweed

Aldrovanda vesiculosa (Extra care needed with this species, not for the beginners)
